10.0. Regulations Regarding Title Results and the award of a Title

10.1

GM results in tournaments with fewer than three individual GMs are not valid.

10.2

WGM results in tournaments with fewer than three of the following are not valid: GMs, IMs, WGMs or players rated 2300 or over.

10.3

IM results in tournaments with fewer than three IMs or two GMs are not valid.

10.4

WIM results in tournaments with fewer than three WIMs or two of the following are not valid: GMs, IMs, WGMs, or players rated 2300 or over.

10.5

At least one title result shall be based on a round robin or an Olympiad. Otherwise, the title application shall be based on at least 30 games.

10.51

Regulations 1.16, 1.17, 1.18, 1.27, 1.45, 1.46 and 1.56 which refer to 9-game results are considered Swiss results. (GA '93)

10.6

At least one title result must be obtained in an event having no more than one round per day.

10.7

The results supporting a title application must be achieved in events with starting dates that fall within a six year period.
Exceptions by the Qualification Commission may be recommended to General Assembly. (GA '94)

10.8

If a result is sufficient for more than one title, then it may be used as part of the application for both.

10.9

A player who has achieved a title result before the last round can ignore all his games played subsequently. In such a case, the Chief Arbiter shall certify the player's result as a valid title result. (GA '93)

10.10

Where a player exceeds the norm requirement by one, two or three full points, then the length of the tournament is considered to be extended by that number of games when computing the total number of games for 1.11, 1.21, 1.41 and 1.51. (GA '95)

10.11

A title result shall be valid if it was obtained in accordance with the International Title Regulations prevailing at the time of the tournament where the norm was attained.

10.12

Tournaments that make changes to favor one or more players (for example by altering the number of rounds) in their pursuit of titles or ratings will not be accepted.
