05. Diploma Awards to Active Federations

The Award of Diplomas to Active Federations

Approved by the 1980 and 1981 General Assemblies.
Amended by the 1982 Executive Council and the 1985 and 1986 General Assemblies.

To encourage the federations and sponsors to take an active part in FIDE activities,  five special awards  are introduced.

1.

Gold diplomas or plaques

will be given to very active federations: those which in the course of four years hold not less than 10 international tournaments, including at least one official FIDE competition. If the federation holds the Chess Olympiad or the match for the Individual World Championship it is sufficient that it holds five international competitions in addition.

2.

Silver diplomas or plaques

will be given to active federations: those which in the course of four years hold not less than five international tournaments, including at least one official FIDE competition.

3.

Diplomas or plaques of achievement

will be presented every two years to chess developing federations of the first, second and third levels of development that have organized an international chess event.

The award of the diplomas under points 1, 2 and 3 shall cover the period starting from 1987.

4.

Diplomas or Plaques of Merit

will be awarded for the period from 1948 to 1976 to those federations that have organized a Chess Olympiad or the finals of an Individual Chess Championship. If a federation has organized more than one of these events, then these should be mentioned specifically in the diploma of merit.

5.

Gold Diploma of Honor

will be awarded on the nomination of the President to a sponsor who has made exceptional contributions for the promotion of international chess over a period of years, and who may be described as a Most Esteemed Friend of FIDE. Recommendations for such awards shall be made in confidence to the President.

The award of the diplomas or plaques shall be prepared automatically by the FIDE Secretariat.

The expression "FIDE competition" includes all competitions which have been organized on behalf of FIDE.

An "International tournament" includes all FIDE registered events authorized by national federations.
